Calgary Transit Using Cameras for Passenger Safety

Calgary Transit -- under public scrutiny over safety concerns -- is installing cameras on all of its 750 buses to reassure its drivers and customers.

City council has approved a safety audit of the transit system over the next year, but Calgary Transit officials say there are several immediate measures in the works to deal with growing safety concerns.

The initiatives, many of which were in the works before the death of a woman near an LRT station Jan. 17, include hiring extra protective services officers, opening a police office on the Centre Street LRT platform and installing cameras on the system's 750 buses.
